November 14, 2002 - Here is the run down on what I have completed ..boy!!! its a lot. I got tired of pulling stuff off and not being able to put stuff together. To restate my goal for right now is to get it running so I can back it in and out of the garage. I pulled the carb and rebuilt it. The original kit that I purchased for 23 dollars was the same as the second kit that I paid 36 dollars later on. How it worked was I ordered a carb kit for a 56 Ford tea-pot carb, I then reordered a correct kit for the 804-5 carb and it turned out to be the same.  I'm still having a hard time trying to figure out how the accelerator pump gasket fits on the pump. The fuel pump arrived about the time that I finished the carb. Did I luck out!!! I bought a spare fuel pump on eBay for the heck of it (and it was cheap) and I had the one on the car also one that came in the trunk. I pulled the carb off the car and tore it down with the intention of using this one. It turns out that the fuel pump on the car was toast..no good and badly corroded. I stole the screws and air chamber off of it and used it on the eBay pump. I soaked the carb and fuel pump in the gallon can of carb cleaner for a couple of days, and then blew them out with carb cleaner. The fuel pump was easy and well worth buying the kit instead of a new pump...I happened to find 2 nos pumps on eBay for 9.99 with no bids and 2 hours to go...but it was time for a nap..and wouldn't ya know it I woke up 2 min to late and they went for 10.49...man was perturbed. The next step was to pull the tank and get it boiled out and coated and I found a place to do it for 90 dollars. Since the gas in the tank was still in liquid form there was no need to boil out the old gas that turned to varnish. A friend of mine told me a cheaper way and that was to pull the tank and take out the sending unit. Then I drained out about 2 gallons of gas and allowed the fumes to evaporate out for a couple of days..couldn't believe the gas had not turned to varnish...I flushed out the rust with the water hose for a good 30 min, this worked well. Tomorrow im going to pour in some clean pea gravel and some water and slosh it around to knock off the rest of the rust. The reason to add the WATER is to wash away the rust but also IT KEEPS THE GRAVEL FROM SPARKING AND CAUSING AN EXPLOSION. The gravel will wash out of the tank with the pressure from the hose. The tank was then set in the sun and allowed to dry out. A light coat of rust reformed in the tank but its going  be coated with the sealant so this will not matter  I found a catalog that has the tank coat for 22 dollars a quart. Look on my parts page later this week for more information. I painted the outside of the tank with POR-15 to seal it up good.

December 3, 2002  -  Last night I got down to work after taking the Holiday weekend off from the Lincoln. I finished getting the 68 Bug ready to drive to work. Starting with the back of the car I gave it my best shot making the new brake lines. A little more difficult then I remember. I had bent some lines in the past for my wife's stang and didn't have any problems with that. These lines are a little longer and I need a little more practice to get them to look nice.  The A-Arms haven't been pulled yet..coming up on 2  months since I ordered them. My plan to have the car running on the long weekend did not happen. My friend Tom is still working on the front brake T-Line..those line nuts are just crusted in there for good. I checked the Ford Catalogs for this brake part and no one carries them. I finally received my starter solenoid that I was hoping to get for the holiday weekend. I took some fine sandpaper to all the contacts associated with the starter. Also taped up the bare wires that the rats chewed up.The price for a engine and dash wiring harness is about 600 bucks.

I was planning to turn over the engine tonight by hooking up a 12 volt battery with jumper cables directly to the starter, took too long scanning in a manual.

While I was working on cleaning up the terminals on the wiring, I decided that I'm going to pull the fenders off and restore the front end after I get the car running. I'm worried that the ant beds that were located in the fresh air vent might be causing some corrosion. The front end could use some good sandblasting around the bottom of the radiator and frame. I checked up on getting the bumper rechromed by The Bumper Boys..Man.. its going to be expensive. They are sending me a price sheet and I'm going to try and get permission to put the information on the parts page.

December 9,2002     On EBay I found an interesting kit. Its a rebuild kit that includes the new tubes for the radio. The kit cost me 50 dollars and includes all the email support  needed to get it working. I'm a AM radio fan anyways so it doesn't bother me to use the original radio. If this is the right number my radio is..  4SH 6785W. The contact information is on my parts page.
